Katsuto Takenaka, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Takenaka moved to Canada in 2000 for postdoctoral research in Dr. John Dick’s laboratory at the Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto. There, he advanced the understanding of immunodeficient mouse models for human leukemia stem cell assays and the molecular basis of leukemia stem cells. He returned to Japan in 2005 as an Associate Professor at Kyushu University Hospital and later served as Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Cardiovascular Medicine. In 2018, he was appointed Professor in the Department of Hematology, Clinical Immunology and Infectious Disease at Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Takenaka’s major research interests research focuses on myeloproliferative neoplasms, particularly the isolation of malignant stem cells using xenograft models.
